BA Lady Cougars sack JA, Columbia

Either on the road or at home, the Brookhaven Academy LadyCougars were unbeatable. They whipped the Jackson Academy girls39-32 Friday night at JA and returned home to humble ColumbiaAcademy 56-27 Saturday night.

In varsity boys action, Jackson Academy smashed BA 58-32. OnSaturday night, the BA Cougars beat Columbia Academy 102-39.

The Lady Cougars got12 points and 9 rebounds from Altmanin the hard-fought win over JA. They also got 6 rebounds from AncyMyers. Anna K. Gatlin made 3 assists and Amy Smith had 3steals.

The BA girls took a 20-15 halftime lead.

JA (18-6) lost to the Lady Cougars for the second timethis season.

Brookhaven 56, Columbia 27

Altman scored 16 points and Anna L. Gatlin 13 as theLady Cougars (29-1, 7-0) devoured Columbia. They were led inrebounding by Lindsey Phillips and Anna L. Gatlin with 6 boardsapiece. Katie Newman made 4 assists. Phillips had 4 steals and AmySmith 3.

Coach Barry Gray’s team led 38-7 athalftime.

Jackson 58, Brookhaven 32

Friday night, Paul Coker led Brookhaven with 12 pointsand four rebounds. Ben Davis grabbed three rebounds.

Jimbo Taylor and John Barnes led Jackson with 11 pointsapiece.

Brookhaven 102, Columbia 39

Directing Brookhaven (20-5, 6-0) to the Saturday nightwin with 25 points and nine rebounds was Turner Havard. JakeSessums fired in 17 points and had three assists. Collecting 14points, nine rebounds and five assists was Coker. Jimmy Lathamnetted 11 points followed by Craig Smith with 10points.

Colby Caster had 11 points for Columbia.

Junior High Girls

Brookhaven beat JA 37-25 in the junior high girls game,led by Abby Williams with 13 points and Lauren Smith with 8. PageBee led the Lady Raiders with 12 points.

On Saturday, Brookhaven (20-0, 8-0) whipped Columbia45-11, paced by Jessie Altman with 9 points and Williams with 8.Allyson Pickett chipped in 7 points and Smith 5.

The Junior High District 4-AA Tournament starts Mondayat Columbia Academy.

Junior High Boys

JA slipped past Brookhaven 40-32 in the boys game.Jonathan Winborne led the Cougars with 12 points. Scoring 18 pointsfor JA was Tyler Winford.

Saturday night, Brookhaven whipped Columbia 51-45.Powering the Cougars with 22 points was Winborne followed by ColeHodges with 14 points. Thomas Gray netted 13 forColumbia.

Patrick Ayres scored 11 points to lead the 7th gradeBrookhaven boys to a 55-20 victory over JA. Steven Covington addedeight points.
