ORLANDO – A professional basketball team has named its trainingfacility in honor a former Brookhaven resident who was their teamsurgeon.

The NBA’s Orlando Magic Monday named one wing of its sportscomplex as the James Barnett Training Center. Barnett, who diedwith his wife Missy in a Sept. 9 plane crash at the Brookhavenairport, was the team’s senior physician.

Barnett’s father Dr. Jim Barnett attended the naming ceremonywith his wife Roberta.

“That was a very beautiful affair,” Barnett said after returningto Mississippi Tuesday.

Barnett said the center features a variety of training equipmentand medical equipment. It was an honor, he said, for the center tobe named for his son.

“I appreciate that very much,” Barnett said. “It was reallynice.”
