First-year Lawrence County coach Chris Clark was pleased withthe win. “It was great the way we came out swinging the bats in thefirst inning,” Clark said. “I was pleased with the way Dusty(Williamson) pitched. Defensively, I didn’t like the fact that welost some intensity when we juggled the lineup a little late in thegame. Before that, we made the plays defensively.”
After LCHS right-hander Dusty Williamson retired the YellowJackets in the top of the first, Cougar bats went to work with avengeanace. Red-hot center fielder Tyler Ball led off with adouble. Michael Edwards followed with a single. One out later,Dusty Ladd singled. Later in the inning, catcher Zack Powell laceda triple down the right field line. Shortstop Will Dawsey added atwo-run single. Not to be outdone, Ball then launched his firsthomer of the year, up against the old gymnasium in right center. After Edwards got his second single of the inning, Nathan Evansdoubled his home. It was a truly awesome inning for the Cougars.Bassfield never recovered.
While Lawrence County hitters were having a successful night,Williamson was breezing along.
