Co-Lin Wolves crush Southwest in twinbill

SUMMIT – Co-Lin’s 1-2 pitching punch of sophomores JacobBlakeney and Josh Garrett proved to be dominant on a cool, sunnySaturday afternoon as the Wolves swept archrival SouthwestCommunity College in a South Division baseball doubleheader.Blakeney pitched a 4-hitter in Co-Lin’s 3-1 opening game victoryand Garrett tossed a 3-hit shutout as the Wolves whipped Southwest9-0 in the nightcap.

Both pitchers were supported by flawless defense. Co-Lin didn’tcommit an error in either game.

The Wolves, coached by Keith Case, improved their record to 8-6overall and 3-1 in the South Division. They entertain Kishwaukee(Ill.) Community College for a Tuesday doubleheader, starting at 4p.m., on Sullivan Field.

The setbacks left Southwest at 2-6 overall and 0-2 in the South.The Bears are under the direction of Larry Holmes and play and hostKishwaukee Monday, starting at 3.

Co-Lin 3, Southwest 1

Blakeney, a sophomore right-hander, struck out 6 batters andwalked 2. He gave up 1 run on 4 hits.

At the plate, Co-Lin was led by catcher David Gray with 2singles. Also hitting safely for the Wolves were Arlandus Brown,Kyle Beall, Brandon Atkins and Britt Hederman.

The Wolves broke a scoreless duel in the fourth inning as BrettDuncan drove in Seth Lofton. Co-Lin scored twice in the fifthinning as Jason Miles scored off a base hit by Brown. Travis Smithscored on a ground ball by Beall, making 3-0.

The Bears plated 1 run in the sixth. Josh Wilkinson singled andscored Joseph Williams who drew a walk.

Losing pitcher Josh Haley gave up 6 hits. He struck out 5batters and walked 2.

Co-Lin 9, Southwest 0

Garrett struck out 8 batters, walked none in the 3-hitshutout, He got plenty of support as the Wolves collected 13hits.

Designated hitter Ryan Davis, second baseman BrandonAtkins and shortstop Kyle Beall collected 2 RBI for the Wolves.Miles and Atkins tripled.

The Wolves exploded for 8 runs on 7 hits in the fourthinning.

Collecting single hits for the Wolves were Beal, Duncan,Davis and Matt Lea.

Southwest got a double from Josh Wilkinson and LeslieGiddens.

Jason Chabreck was the losing pitcher. He was replacedby Colin Vila in the fourth.
