Panthers skin Cobras

WESSON – The McComb Tournament games were moved north Thursdayas the Brookhaven Panthers dumped the Wesson Cobras 13-2 in fiveinnings.

Justin Sykes (2-0) got the win with four strikeouts and twowalks. Dusty Gerald got the save finishing out the final 2/3innings. Justin Smith was the losing pitcher.

Brookhaven opened the first inning with a 2-0 lead over Wesson.The Panthers took advantage of several walks in the second inningfor eight big runs for a 10-0 lead. Brookhaven added three runs inthe top of the fifth and Wesson scored two in the bottom of thefourth. With a 13-2 lead, the game ended under the 10-run rule.

Wesson scored its two runs in the bottom of the fourth, cuttingthe deficit at the time to 11-2.

Powering the 8-2 Panthers with a home run and two singles wasFred Perkins. Miguel Banks drilled a double and two singles. CayceWallace singled twice and Daniel Boyd hit safely.

For 3-7 Wesson, Ryan Williams, Kyle Smith and Russell Robinsonsingled.

Brookhaven head baseball coach Randy Spring was pleased with thePanthers’ hitting. “I am pleased with our bats. We scored 82 runsin six games. Fred hit the ball. Hopefully he is coming out (of hisslump).”

Brookhaven resumes Division 6-4A play Tuesday hosting the McCombTigers at Moyer Field. Wesson hosts Division 6-2A rival NatchezCathedral Tuesday at 5 p.m. and 7.
