Loyd Star shuts down Lawrence

The Loyd Star Hornets got a standout pitching performance fromSeth Britt Saturday afternoon en route to a 4-1 win over thevisiting Lawrence County Cougars. Britt allowed only six hits andimproved to 2-1 on the season.

“Seth (Britt) did a good job on the mound for us,” said LoydStar head coach Anthony Hart. “He threw strikes and kept the ballin play the entire afternoon. He’s a battler.”

Britt only allowed one walk in going the distance for theHornets. Dusty Ladd struck out four and walked one to take the lossfor the Cougars.

Loyd Star broke open a scoreless game in the bottom of the thirdwhen Chase Coley singled, stole second base, and scored on a singleby Brad Britt. They added three runs in the fourth when AdamSpeeg’s double drove in Seth Britt and Jody Britt. Speeg laterscored on a single by Cass Brister.

The Cougars’ only run came on back-to-back doubles by Ladd andNathan Evans.

Speeg led the Hornets with two hits including a double. BlakeWall, Seth Britt and Jody Britt had doubles and Deke Purdy,Brister, Brad Britt and Coley each had singles.

The Cougars were led by Evans with two doubles and Tyler Ballwith two singles. Evans and Ladd had doubles and Zack Powellsingled for Lawrence County.

The Hornets improved to 9-7, while Lawrence County fell to9-7.

Loyd Star will host Natchez Cathedral in a District 6-2A gameTuesday at 5 p.m. (JV) and 7 p.m. (varsity). Lawrence County willhost Terry at 7 p.m., that night.
