BA bashes Bowling Green

Junior righthander Adam Smith pitched a 1-hitter and theBrookhaven Academy Cougars roared to an 11-1 Wednesday victory overthe Bowling Green Academy Buccaneers. Smith struck out 9 battersand walked 2, hitting 1 batter in the 5-inning game.

The Cougars, coached by Ron Rushing, raised their record to 7-6overall and 3-1 in District 4-AA, taking over first place. ColumbiaAcademy is in second place.

“We had good pitching, good hitting and good defense,” saidCoach Rushing. “That’s a good combination.”

The Cougars resume play Friday, hosting Wilkinson CountyChristian Academy for a single varsity game, starting at 5 p.m.

At the plate, leftfielder Paul Coker hit a 3-run homer in thefirst inning for Brookhaven as the Cougars collected 6 straighthits. Smith accounted for 3 hits, including a double. RightfielderJeffrey Waycaster had 3 hits. First baseman Chase Magee had 2hits.

Collecting single hits for the Cougars were Ben Davis, KellyAllred and Ben Sandifer.
