Brookhaven netters in state semis today

MADISON – The Brookhaven tennis team entered the Class 4A StateTournament semifinals today with designs on an elusive state title.The Panthers remain alive in boys singles, boys doubles and mixeddoubles.
Lane Lofton is representing Brookhaven in boys singles whileStuart Misner and Judson Langston play boys doubles. Kim McBrideand Sam Sones are playing mixed doubles for BHS.
In Monday’s action, Brookhaven’s Katie Smith reached thequarterfinals of girls singles before being eliminated by Watts ofOxford 6-0, 6-1. Smith beat Belenchia of Cleveland 6-0, 6-0 in theopening round.
In girls doubles, Allison DeHuff and Sadie Corban of Brookhavenbeat Eldman-Brinson of Oak Grove 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round. Inthe quarterfinals, DeHuff-Corban lost to Porter-Goza of McComb 7-6,6-4.
Lofton defeated Robinson of Hernando in the opening round ofboys singles and beat Hill of Petal 6-0, 6-0 in thequarterfinals.
Misner-Langston were 6-0, 6-1 winners over Woodruff-Weeks ofAlcorn Central in the opening round. They beat McElhenney-McKee ofWest Point 6-0, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.
Sones-McBride beat Breland-Houston of Columbia 6-2, 6-2 in theopening round. They defeated Jordan-Hahn of Oxford 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 inthe quarterfinals.
State semifinals are this morning and the finals begin at 1p.m.
