Services are Friday for former City Clerk Byrne

Services for former City Clerk Irene Hart Byrne of Brookhavenare 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, at Brookhaven Funeral Home Chapel withburial in Mt. Olive Church of Christ Cemetery.

Visitation is today from 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Byrne, 83, died June 13, 2001, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. She was born in Lincoln County on Sept. 8, 1917, to JudgeLafayette Hart and Ethel Roberts Hart.

She was city clerk of Brookhaven for 16 years and had served asdeputy chancery clerk for Lincoln County. She had been a teacherand basketball coach at Fair Oak Springs. She was a former memberof Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Tommie C.Byrne; her brother, Royce R. Hart; and her sister, Doylene HartGarvin.

Survivors are her son, Tim Byrne of Jackson; her daughters,Patricia Byrne Whiteaker and Kathy Byrne Nix, both of Brookhaven;and her grandchildren, Mike Byrne, Courtney Byrne, Trey Emerson,Steve Emerson, Ryan Nix, and Lauren Nix.
