Services for Nonnie Nelson Thames of Jayess are 2 p.m. Friday,June 29, at New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the churchcemetery.

Mrs. Thames, 77, died Wednesday, June 27, 2001, at UniversityMedical Center in Jackson. She was born in Lawrence County on Dec.14, 1923, to the late Robert V. and Sophie Rutland Nelson.

She was a homemaker. She was a member of New Hope BaptistChurch, where she was lifetime member who served as WMU director,Sunday School teacher and choir member.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jere J.Thames; and two grandchildren, Maxie Keith Rutland and DerekSanders.

Survivors are her son, Phillip J. Thames of New Hope; daughters,Brenda T. Rutland of Topeka, Gerry T. Sanders of Byram, Sharon T.Pevey of New Hope, Joan T. Tanksley of New Hope and Joy T. Bristerof Tilton; brothers, Hoyt Nelson of Slidell, La., Malcolm Nelson ofCaseyville, Euel Nelson of Monticello and Bobby Nelson ofTylertown; sisters, Helen Tynes of Topeka, Thelma Thames of NewHope and Polly Shirley of Philadelphia, Miss.; 18 grandchildren;and seven great-grandchildren.

Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
