Court session nets jail time for several

MONTICELLO — Orders of sentencing from the June Lawrence Countycourt term were received Wednesday, including one on two counts ofrape, Circuit Court Clerk Cindy Stokes said.

Shawn R. Brown, 28, P.O. Box 1904, Monticello, pleaded guilty ontwo counts of rape on separate indictments.

On both counts, he was sentenced to 45 years in the custody ofthe Mississippi Department of Corrections. Fifteen years of bothcounts will be suspended pending successful completion of a fiveyear period of post-release supervision and the paying of courtcosts. The sentences are concurrent.

The first attack occurred Sept. 27, 2000, at a house on NolaRoad.

The second offense happened on July 8, 2000, at a Monticelloapartment complex.

Also sentenced were:

* Estus McCallum, 29, of Monticello, was sentenced to 20 yearsin the custody of MDOC, pay a $1,500 fine and all court costs, andpay $1,500 restitution to the Pearl River Basin Narcotics TaskForce for sale of a controlled substance;

* Eugene Conn, 19, of 798 China Grove Road, Jayess, wassentenced to 15 years with 10 years suspended pending successfulcompletion of a five year period of post-release supervision, pay a$1,000 fine, pay restitution to the victims and all court costs forburglary of a dwelling to run concurrent to a sentence he isalready serving;

* James Bessemier, 21, 343 China Grove Road, Jayess, wassentenced to 15 years with 10 years suspended pending successfulcompletion of a five year period of post-release supervision, pay a$1,000 fine, pay restitution to the victims and all court costs forburglary of a dwelling to run concurrent to a sentence he isalready serving;

* Selina Delaughter, 28, 343 China Grove Road, Jayess, wassentenced to 15 years with 12 years suspended pending successfulcompletion of a five year period of post-release supervision, pay a$1,000 fine, pay restitution to the victims and all court costs forburglary of a dwelling to run concurrent to a sentence he isalready serving;

* Johnny Newport Jr., 26, P.O. Box 1774, Monticello, wassentenced to five years with four years suspended pendingsuccessful completion of a four year period of post-releasesupervision, pay a $2,000 fine and all court costs for felonyDUI;

* Chad Damon Lambert, no age or address given, was sentenced tosix months in the Lawrence County Jail for misdemeanor telephoneharassment. The sentence was suspended provided he not violate anylaws for one year, pay court costs and not harass the victim;

* Janice Bridges, 38, Route 1, Box 1304, Silver Creek, wassentenced to 15 years in the custody of MDOC with 13 yearssuspended pending successful completion of a five year period ofpost-release supervision, participate in the Extended Drug andAlcohol Treatment Program, pay a $1,000 fine and all court costsfor sale of a controlled substance;

* Desmond Brown, 20, Route 2, Box 24JK, Monticello, wassentenced to 15 years in the custody of MDOC, completion of theprogram at the Restitution Center, pay a fine of $1,500, pay $1,500restitution to the PRBNTF and all court costs for sale of acontrolled substance;

* Kenneth Peyton, 28, of Emmanuel Peyton Lane, Monticello, wassentenced to 20 years in the custody of MDOC with 15 year suspendedpending successful completion of a five year post-releasesupervision, pay a $1,500 fine, pay $1,500 restitution to thePRBNTF and all court costs for sale of controlled substance within1,500 feet of a church.
