Anderson to coach BA football offense

Paul Anderson knows all about winning state footballchampionships. Brookhaven Academy’ s new offensive coordinator hasbeen associated with three state title teams, two at WinstonAcademy and one at Jackson Prep.
Anderson, 30, comes to Brookhaven Academy from Jackson Prep. ThePatriots won the Class AAAA state title last year. He coached atWinston Academy in Louisville for five years, helping the team winthe Class A title in 1997 and the Class AA crown in 1998.
“I’m excited about the challenge at Brookhaven Academy,” saidAnderson. “We have a good nucleus of kids here. It is similar toWinston.”
Anderson said he wants to have more players on the BrookhavenAcademy squad. “I want to get the numbers up.”
He said he plans to run a no-huddle offense. “Call it afast-break offense.”
Anderson also coached girls basketball at Winston Academy. His1999 girls were runners-up to Brookhaven Academy in the Class AAState Tournament held at Canton Academy.
He said he was looking forward to working with Ray Ishee, BA’snew head football coach; and new headmaster Dan Boyce.
“Paul is a good offensive coach and he has coached at some goodschools,” said Ishee. “He will be a real asset to the program wewant to build here. He has a strong Christian character, too.”
A Crystal Springs native, Anderson is a 1988 graduate of CopiahAcademy. He also is a graduate of Copiah-Lincoln Community Collegeand Belhaven College. He coached two years at Copiah Academy,serving on the staffs of David Blount and Jay Swindle. He coachedand taught history at St. Martin in Ocean Springs during the1999-2000 school year.
Anderson is married to the former Christy Walker of CrystalSprings and they have a 13-month-old daughter, Emmalee Kay.
