Hornets fly past Enterprise

The scoreboard at Harry Cole Field was out of order Fridaynight. Loyd Star senior runningback Demarcus Barnes turned out thelights on host Enterprise. Barnes returned 2 kickoffs fortouchdowns, as the Hornets stung the Jackets 41-20 in the StingBowl.
Loyd Star travels to Meadville on Friday, to take on FranklinCounty. Enterprise commutes across I-55 to meet county rival WestLincoln in a Region 4-1A showdown.
Loyd Star (1-1) rebounded from its opening game shutoutto Bay Springs in a huge way. Barnes provided the spark that setthe tone for the night festivities. Taking the opening kickoff fromEnterprise at his own 8, Barnes jetted 92 yards unscathed for hisfirst touchdown of the night. Jody Britt connected on the PAT kick,with just 14 seconds ticking off the clock, the Hornets held a 7-0lead.
Official time for the game was kept on thefield.
After several exchanges of possession, Enterprise (1-1)would find paydirt with 10:53 left in the second quarter. Seniorrunningback Shermaine Vaughn ran in from 2 yards out. Theconversion run failed and the Jackets deficit was reduced to7-6.
Key play for this 4-play, 17-yard drive was aninterception by Vaughn that began at the Loyd Star 17.
The Hornets would open the flood gates in the final10:53 of the second quarter, with 28 unansweredpoints.
Barnes started the scoring barrage with another kickoffreturn for a score. This time, he went untouched 90 yards to thegoal line, 14 second later. Britt’s PAT try was good.
“Those two kickoffs returns by Barnes were the key tothe game,” said Hornet head coach Anthony Hart following the game.”After the second one, I thought that we had took the wind out oftheir (Enterprise) sails.”
Hornet runningback Derrick Johnson added back-to-backscores in this span. The first one came with 9:23 left in the halffrom 16 yards out, and the second one came at the 1:40 mark of theperiod. Britt connected on 1-of-2 PAT kicks.
Loyd Star would strike through the air, as time expiredin the first half. Quarterback Seth Britt connected with fullbackLogan Portrey on a 8-yard scoring strike. Jody Britt’s PAT try wasgood and the Hornets entertained a 35-6 cushion at theintermission.
“They just flat out whipped us at the line ofscrimmage,” said Jacket head coach Ricky Deere.
Enterprise went to the air in the second half for 2scores. The first came with 3:03 left in the third. Jacketquarterback Justin Kyzar hit Monti Crotwell with 37 yard touchdownpass.
Loyd Star answered with a touchdown pass of its own.With 10:40 left in the game, Seth Britt found Portrey on a 63-yardscoring strike. The failed PAT kick gave the Hornets a 41-12lead.
The Jackets closed out the scoring for the night with8:41 left in the game. Kyzar found Crotwell with a beautiful35-yard touchdown pass. Kyzar passed to Pierre Harthorne for asuccessful 2-point try and the final margin of victory wasrealized.
