Lady Bears sack Enterprise girls 6-2

The scoreboard at the Enterprise softball field was inoperativeMonday evening. It seemed like it was a sign of things to come. TheWest Lincoln Lady Bears turned out the lights on the EnterpriseLady Yellow Jackets 6-2 in a key Division 7-1A showdown. Firstbasemen Holli Bass led the green-clad charge with two singles, ahomerun and 4 RBIs.

Enterprise is tentatively scheduled to travel to Bogue Chitto,on Thursday with the JV game starting at 6 p.m., followed by thevarsity game at 7.

West Lincoln plays host to Bogue Chitto today. The JV gamebegins at 4 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 5. The earlystart time is due to a West Lincoln junior high football game.

West Lincoln 6, Enterprise 2

Apparently, the stormy weather over the weekend causedhavoc on the scoreboard at the softbal fieldl. Friday afternoonshowers gave a possible early preview of things to come at thefootball field, as that scoreboard was not working.

The opening innings were a virtual standstill. Bothteams hit the ball well, but were unable to put it in play in the39-minute affair. Double plays and long out were the theme of theearly innings.

West Lincoln (8-1, 3-0) opened the scoring in their halfof the third to gain a 2-0 lead. Lauren Smith reached on an error.Dana King singled, moving Smith to second. An error by Enterpriseallowed King to go to second and Smith was able to score. Twobatters later, Bass singled to score King.

The Lady Bears continued their offensive in the fifth,to increase their advantage to 6-0. Smith singled. King singled.Jennifer Richardson reached on a 2-base error, allowing Smith toscore. Bass stepped to the plate and delivered a 3-runinside-the-park homer, scoring King and Richardson.

Enterprise tried to rally, scoring 2 runs in its half ofthe seventh. Nikki Leggett singled. Ashley Palomarez tripled,scoring Leggett. Palomarez would later score as the throw from theoutfield sailed past home plate with no one covering.

The West Lincoln defense was able to shut down the LadyJackets and hold on for the divisional win.

“They (West Lincoln) deserved to win,” said Lady Jackethead coach Steve Sasser. “They hit the ball real welltonight.”

Leggett suffered the loss for Enterprise. Breann Lairdand Megan Criswell had 2 singles respectively to lead the LadyJackets.

Pitcher Hannah Roberts picked up the win for the LadyBears.

“We wanted to hit the ball deep to bring in theirdefense,” said West Lincoln head coach Andrew Redd.

In the JV game, West Lincoln posted a 9-5win.
