Services for Alice Earl “Surle” Fairman Safley of Brookhaven are3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Faith Presbyterian Church with burialin Rosehill Cemetery.

Mrs. Safley, 86, died Friday, Sept. 21, 2001, at her residence.She was born in Monticello on July 4, 1915, to Eugene Shelby andAlice Earl Stewart Fairman.

She was a school teacher and district manager for World BookEncyclopedia. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church. Shewas a charter member of the Junior Auxiliary and a member of theMother’s Culture Club. She was a DeMolay district mother.

Survivors are her son, Edward Safley Tree of Los Angeles;daughter, Susan Safley Davis, Ph.D of Decatur, Ga.; son-in-law,Timothy E. Davis of Decatur, Ga.; daughter-in-law, Kathy Tree ofLos Angeles; sister, Louise Fairman George of Monticello; and threegrandchildren.

Harrigill Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
