W. Lincoln splits debut at Raleigh

RALEIGH – Guard Dana King pumped in 20 points and directed theWest Lincoln Lady Bears to a season-opening 50-40 Tuesday night winover the Raleigh girls in the Raleigh Classic. King hit 4 treys andmade 4 assists in the victory.
West Lincoln’s boys lost a 63-60 decision to the host Lions lastnight as Jamie Evans sacked a game-high 28 points for Raleigh.Brooks Smith led West Lincoln with 20 points, including 5treys.
The West Lincoln girls meet Taylorsville Thursday at 4 p.m., inthe title game. West Lincoln’s boys face Morton at 5:30 Thursday inthe consolation game.
West Lincoln 50, Raleigh 40
“Our girls played good defense and never gave up,” said WestLincoln first-year head coach Andy Smithie. “We got a lot ofsupport from our bench.”
Guard Chastity Avants had 8 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals forWest Lncoln. Holli Bass grabbed 9 rebounds and made 3 steals.
Raleigh got 17 points from Daphnae Bender.
Raleigh 63, West Lincoln 60
Forward Luke Lofton chipped in 13 points and 12 rebounds for theBears. Sam Collins scored 17 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
“It was good to play a game,” said Smithie. “This will helpdetermine the areas that need improving.”
Lofton made 4 assists and 2 steals for West Lincoln.
Raleigh, which trailed 47-41 starting the fourth quarter, got 12points from Melvin Banks.
