Franklin Co. boys shock Hazlehurst

HAZLEHURST – Sloppy play and good defense were the keys Fridaynight for Franklin County. The Bulldogs stunned the host HazlehurstIndians 56-47 behind junior guard Bobby Henderson’s 17 points.

In the girls contest, Hazlehurst scalped the Lady Dawgs64-35.

The Dawgs (2-8, 2-3) used a 14-9 first quarter lead to set thetempo of the game but the second quarter belonged to the Indians.Hazlehurst outscored the Dawgs 16-11 for a 25-24 deficit at thebreak.

After the break, the Dawgs used Henderson and juniors Tim Green,Josh Bradford and Anthony Wilcher as scoring machines. The Indianscould only get as close as four to the Dawgs when time and foulsended the game at the free throw line for the huge Dawgsvictory.

“We didn’t play well at all tonight,” said Indian coach GaryTabor. “This was a tough loss for us after winning over the lastthree. Overall, we’ve got to regroup and hopefully play batterTuesday at Jefferson County.”

In the girls game, Hazlehurst used senior playmaker VictoriaRichardson’s 12 for 12 shooting to overwhelm winless (0-11)Franklin County. Richardson scored 27 points and collected 7rebounds en route to the Lady Indians tenth victory this season.Hazlehurst improved to 10-2 and 3-0 in Region 7-3A play.
