Roberts lifts Lady Bears

Enterprise produced a furious, second-half comeback Friday nightbut West Lincoln’s Hannah Roberts provided the game-winning fieldgoal. Roberts scored with eight seconds left to play, lifting theLady Bears to a shaky 47-45 win over the Lady Yellow Jackets injam-packed Jack Case Gymnasium.

Enterprise (5-1, 4-1) was down by nine points, 24-15, athalftime. The Lady Jackets trailed by 7 entering the fourthquarter, 33-26, after launching a 9-0 run. They took a 44-41 leadon a trey by Lacey Palomarez with 1:39 left to play.

West Lincoln (10-2, 3-0) found some salvation at the free throwline. Roberts and Dana King each made 2 free shots in the final1:28. King who finished with a game-high 23 points, netted 2 freeshots with 1:03 left on the clock, giving her team a 45-44advantage.

Enterprise had an opportunity to take the lead when Joyce Allenwent to the charity line. She made 1 of 2 free throws and tied thescore at 45-45 with 23 seconds left to play.

After Roberts scored with 8 seconds remaining. Enterprise hadone more opportunity. A hurried 3-point attempt by Andrea Harthornelooped out of the ring as time expired.

“It was an exciting game,” said West Lincoln coach Andy Smithie.”Overall, we played very good defense.”

In the first half, King’s deadly shooting from 3-point rangeboosted West Lincoln. She had 12 points at halftime and finishedwith 5 treys.

King’s trey and a short jumper by Hannah Johnson had put theLady Bears up by 14 points, 33-19, with 3:48 left in the thirdquarter. They were outscored 26-12 the rest of the game asPalomarez ignited the rally.

Senior forward Holli Bass followed King with 11 points and 4rebounds. She fouled out with 23 seconds left in the game.

Johnson accounted for 7 rebounds. Roberts made 3 assists.

Enterprise got 14 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists fromPalomarez. She scored 16 of her points in the second halfrally.

Daisy Sanders followed Palomarez with 7 rebounds. Harthorne made4 assists.

“Our girls didn’t play well the first half but we made it closeat the end,” said Enterprise coach Billy Vaughn. “King is capableof getting hot. We gave her some looks,” on defense.

Vaughn lost three starters to graduation from last season’s 16-8team.

Junior High Results

West Lincoln whipped Enterprise 35-12 in the junior high game,led by April Kennedy’s 13 points. Erica Shaw added 10 points andBrittany Phillips 6.

Enterprise got nine points from Savannah Palomarez.
