MCCOMB – The Brookhaven Academy Cougar boys team outscored theParklane Pioneers 9-5 in overtime to take home a tough 54-50 winSaturday night. The teams were deadlocked 45-45 at the end ofregulation.

In Friday night’s game, the Brookhaven Academy knocked off hostCentral Hinds 56-54 at Raymond in another closegame.Brookhaven 54, Parklane 50

“I was real proud of our team tonight,” said Brookhaven Academyboys coach Dale Watts. “We played hard. We had some big freethrows. Parklane had hurt us on the boards until the fourth quarterand overtime.”

Jimmy Latham led Brookhaven with 17 points, including 3three-pointers. Chase Magee netted 11 points and grabbed fourrebounds. Cole Smith led off the backboards with seven reboundsfollowed by Craig Smith with six rebounds.

Zack Patti paced the Pioneers with 17 points, including four3-pointers.

Brookhaven 56, C. Hinds 54

In Friday’s win, Magee led Brookhaven with 13 points and fourrebounds. Craig Smith netted seven points. Starter Paul Coker wasejected early in the first quarter of the game after receivingback-to-back technicals. Coker sat out Saturday’s game withParklane.

Central Hinds got 18 points from Colby Powell.

Junior high game

Cole Hodges scored a game-high 21 points to leadBrookhaven to a 54-52 win over Central Hinds Friday. Billy Bishopled Central Hinds with 20 points.

Brookhaven Academy will host its holiday basketballtournament beginning Thursday and continuing through Saturday.Eight teams are participating.

Joining the Brookhaven Academy teams are Parklane,Simpson County (boys), Centreville Academy, Central Hinds, CopiahAcademy, Marvell, Ark. and Prentiss Christian. On the girls side,Mt. Olive (La.) replaces Simpson.

The tourney kicks off Thursday morning with eight gameson tap, followed by six games on Friday and four games on Saturday.Each team is guaranteed two games in the tourney.
