Man loses home during weekend fire

SILVER CREEK — A residential home was totally consumed inflames Saturday afternoon in the Pin Oak Community.
The home of Cornelius Starks, Rt. 1, Box 1474, Silver Creek, wasdestroyed by fire despite the efforts of three fire departments,said Monticello Firefighter Hugh Summers. Starks was notinjured.
Authorities were notified of the fire at 1:48 p.m. when a 911call came through dispatch. Silver Creek Volunteer Fire Departmentwas enroute by 1:50 p.m. and Monticello Fire Department was askedto assist at 1:55 p.m., Summers said. Both departments respondedwith pumpers.
The house was fully involved when the departments arrived.
“I think the only part that wasn’t involved when we got therewas the utility room,” Summers said. “You could see fire allthrough the house.”
Firefighters battled the blaze until the fire was extinguishedaround 3 p.m., Summers said.
Arm Volunteer Fire Department was called in during the fight andbrought two tanker trucks, but firefighters was unable to save thehome. It was a total loss.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
