Man hurt when hit by car in weekend altercation

An altercation turned dangerous Friday night when a Brookhavenman was run over by a vehicle at a local gas station, according toauthorities.

Curtis Douglas Acy, 30, of 2169 Jackson Liberty Drive, sufferedseveral injuries after he was hit by a car driven by JosephMontgomery, 26, of 1877 Highway 51, around 9:15 p.m. Friday atExxon C-Store on Brookway Boulevard, said Brookhaven Police ChiefArlustra “Pap” Henderson.

Acy was transported to King’s Daughters Medical Center, where hewas in stable condition Monday, according to a hospitalspokesperson.

“It looked like they had an altercation where supposedly Acy washitting the driver in the face through the window, then he was runover by the driver,” Henderson said.

Henderson said it was unclear whether Acy stood in front of thevehicle when Montgomery tried to leave or if Montgomery ran overAcy as he walked away.

Authorities are still searching for the cause of thealtercation, with no charges being filed yet.

“The only thing that was issued was a speeding ticket at thispoint, but it’s still under investigation,” Henderson stated.
