GSU’s Terrell named ASC Player of Week

MACON, Ga. -Georgia State University’s Thomas Terrell, a 6-7senior forward from Brookhaven, Miss., has been named the AtlanticSun Conference Men’s Player of the Week for his performance overthe holiday break. In the Tournament of Champions at Charlotte,N.C., Terrell led Georgia State by averaging 28.0 points and 8.0rebounds. His 38-point game led the Panthers to an upset win overthen No. 15-ranked Saint Joseph as he outdueled All-American MarvinO’Connor (33 points) in the 95-90 game which was televised in sixstates.
It was a tournament record in that 14-year event held at theCharlotte Coliseum. His two-game total of 52 points were two shy ofthe record set by North Carolina’s Antawn Jamison who is now withthe NBA Warriors.
In the win over St. Joseph, Terrell shot 10 of 16 field goalsand hit 6 of 10 three-point baskets. He was 10 of 11 from the freethrow line, making his first 10 before a miss. He pulled down eightrebounds, made two steals and blocked a shot in 34 minutes as hebattled early foul trouble against the Hawks.
This is Terrell’s third Player of the Week honor, winning ittwice as a junior. He was the MVP in last year’s ASC Tournament. Hecurrently leads the ASC in scoring (20.6) and is 34th in thenation.
