James “Jimmy” Shelby George

Services for James “Jimmy” Shelby George of Monticello are 10a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Monticello United Methodist Church withburial in Monticello Municipal Cemetery.

Mr. George, 59, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at his home. He wasborn in Lawrence County and graduated from the University ofMississippi Law School in 1966. He was a former prosecutingattorney for Lawrence County. He was a member of the MississippiBar Association, the Mississippi Forestry Association, LawrenceCounty Forestry Association, and the Lawrence County CommunityDevelopment Association. He was active in the Monticello UnitedMethodist Church. His hobbies included managing pine timberland,running, reading and acting in Lawrence County Playhouseproductions.

Preceding him in death was his father, James George.

Survivors are his wife, Grace “Monty” Dale George of Monticello;daughter, Alison George of Monticello; two stepdaughters, MauryDale Cowart of Pensacola, Fla., and Midge Dale Martinez of YorbaLinda, Calif.; stepson, Mark Dale of Monticello; mother, LouiseGeorge of Monticello; sisters, Jane George Tyrone of Monticello andAlice Rose “Pi” George of New York City, N.Y.; brother-in-law,Jimmy Tyrone of Monticello; six grandchildren; nephew, Matt Tyroneof Monticello; and niece, Mandy Tyrone Owens of Chicago.

Memorials may be given to Cooper’s Ferry Park or the LawrenceCounty Civic Center.

Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
