Two charged in theft of cigarettes

A Smithdale man and woman were arrested Sunday in connectionwith the theft of 23 cartons of cigarettes from a Brookhaven gasstation in January, according to authorities.

Edward R. Troulliet, 21, and Misty Ann Rutland, 24, both of 5914B, Finn Road, Smithdale, are being held in the Lincoln County jailon grand larceny charges, said Brookhaven Police Detective RogerWilson.

“It stems from the theft of $724.50 worth of cigarettes,” Wilsonexplained.

Rutland was an employee of the C-Store, located near theintersection of Brookway Boulevard and Highway 51, when thecigarettes were stolen in mid-January, said Wilson.

The Brookhaven Police Department received assistance from otherauthorities in finding Rutland, who no longer works at the gasstation.

“We appreciate the help of the Amite County Sheriff’s Departmentin helping locate her and arrest her Sunday. It was goodcooperation,” Wilson remarked.

Troulliet was arrested Sunday in Brookhaven, where he isemployed, added Wilson.
