Star splits W. Lincoln

The host Loyd Star Hornets split a baseball doubleheaderSaturday with the West Lincoln Bears in what was originally to bepart of the Lincoln County Tournament. Enterprise pulled out of thetourney due to the death of former student Scott Johnson Fridaymorning.

Loyd Star and West Lincoln agreed to play a doubleheader withfive innings a game. West Lincoln won the opener 5-4 and Loyd Starcame back for a 15-2 victory.

Daniel Allen (2-1) posted the win in the first game withthree strikeouts and one walk. Jared Britt absorbed theloss.

At the plate, the visiting Bears were led by Drew Smithand Shane Lynch with two singles apiece. Landon Case doubled. CodyWallace and Cody Mitchell hit safely.

“Everybody played well,” said West Lincoln boys coachAndrew Redd. “We came away with the win.”

The Hornets got a double and a single from LoganPortrey. David Cuevas hit a double. Jared Britt, Seth Britt andJustin Whatley singled.

In the second game, pitcher Blake Wall went the distancefor the win. Landon Case started in the first inning for WestLincoln and was relieved by Jeremy Branning who worked theremainder of the game.

West Lincoln got two singles apiece from Case and Smith.Mitchell, Wallace, and Branning singled.

Powering Loyd Star with a double and a single was SethBritt. Cuevas and Portrey collected two singles apiece. JaredBritt, Cass Brister, Matthew Delaughter, Blake Porter, CodyCunningham and Whatley singled.

West Lincoln (2-5) entertains Crystal Springs Friday fortwo games. The first one begins at noon.
