Drug charge net jail time for city man

One defendant received jail time while others got suspendedsentences during brief activity in Lincoln County Circuit CourtFriday.

Marcus Weathersby, 22, of 699 Choctaw St., was ordered to servethree years of a five-year sentence after pleading guilty tounlawful possession of cocaine. Ordering the remainder of thesentence served under post release supervision, Judge KeithStarrett also sentenced Weathersby to 500 hours of communityservice work with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department and topay a $2,000 fine.

Weathersby said the crime was an “accident.” Starrett respondedthat the man had opportunities in the past to learn his lesson, buthe had not.

“I hope you do this time,” Starrett said.

In other court action, Travell Williams, 21, of 208 PenningtonSt., was sentenced to a total of four years on charges of burglary,grand larceny and conspiracy.

The sentence was suspended and Williams ordered to serve a termat the restitution center. He was ordered to pay $871 restitutionto Jones Seafood, stay away from the business and to perform 150hours of community service work.

Cedrick Harris, 20, of 1006 Old Brook Road, received a two-yearsuspended sentence on charges of burglary of an automobile andconspiracy. He was also ordered to pay full restitution andcomplete a term at the restitution center, obtain alcohol and drugtreatment if needed, pay a $1,000 fine and perform 150 hours ofcommunity service work.

The community service work for Williams and Harris was to bedone under the direction of the Exchange Club at its fair site,Starrett ordered.

“That’s a project that’s a service to a lot of children in thearea,” the judge said.

Lamarra Adams, 22, of 100 Fred Walley Dr., received a total10-year sentence for two counts of credit card fraud and two countsof forgery. The sentence was suspended for five years probation,and Adams was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, a total of 249restitution and to obtain her GED.

In other action, one defendant pleaded guilty to a misdemeanormarijuana possession charge and was fine $250.

John Howard, 39, of 1348 Hog Chain Road, Bogue Chitto , pleadedguilty to a third offense DUI charge. His sentencing was deferredto April 1.
