Hattiesburg Presbyterian wins South State golf title

Senior Joel Myrick shot a 3-under-par 67 in leading theHattiesburg Presbyterian School Bobcats to the South State AA GolfTournament title Tuesday at the Brookhaven Country Club. TheBobcats shot a team score of 291 to beat runner-up BrookhavenAcademy which posted a 317.

The AA State Tournament is Thursday at the Canton CountryClub.

Brookhaven Academy was led by Craig Smith’s 73. Garrett Jacksonwas next at 78, followed by Brandon Baker at 81. John Rushing andJeffrey White both shot 85. Jason Snider shot 108.

Myrick, a scholarship signee with Meridian Community College,had plenty of support as the Bobcats won by 26 strokes. SophomoreAustin Bowen and freshman Rocky Cleland shot 72 and 73 respectivelyto share runner-up medalist honors with Smith.
