Services for Laverne Holmes Blackwell of Bogue Chitto are 2p.m., Saturday, May 25, at New Zion Union M. B. Church inBrookhaven with burial in Bogue Chitto Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Tyler FuneralHome.

Mrs. Blackwell, 58, died May 18, 2002, at King’s DaughtersMedical Center. She was born in Lincoln County on Feb. 26, 1944, toJody Holmes and Cora Lee Belton Holmes.

She was a former teacher at New Zion Heat Start in Bogue Chitto.She was a member of New Zion Union M. B. Church, where she was amember of the Missionary Society, the Senior Mission, the ChoirAdvisory Board, and was president of the Education Committee.

Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brother,Adolphus Holmes.

Survivors are her husband, William M. Blackwell of Bogue Chitto;her son, William G. Blackwell of Bogue Chitto; her daughter, PenneyL. Blackwell of Bogue Chitto; her brother, Robert C. Holmes of Ft.Worth, Texas; her sisters, Emma L. Smith of Brookhaven, Jeanette C.Harris of Monroe, La., and Della R. Harrison, Irma Jean Holmes,Thelma L. Fields, and Dorothy J. Davis, all of Bogue Chitto; andfive grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
