Services for Hazel Slay Bishop of Hazlehurst were Saturday, June1, in the Hazlehurst First Baptist Church chapel with burial inAntioch Cemetery.
Mrs. Bishop, 88, died Wednesday, May 28, 2002, at her home.Stringer Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bishop was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Simpson County and grew upin the Union community. She graduated from Hinds Community Collegeand later earned a Master’s in Education from Mississippi StateUniversity.
She was married to Ayers B. Bishop of Hazlehurst for 55years.
Mrs. Bishop taught school in Pinola, Harrisville, Centerpointand Maben.
Mr. and Mrs. Bishop moved to Hazlehurst in 1980 and becameactive in First Baptist Church. She was active in Sunday school,Glory Choir, W.M.U. and the Actioneers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents Ed and MaySlay, four sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include nieces, a nephew and a host of friends.
