Wesson man charged with assault, burglary

A Wesson man was arrested at the McComb hospital Monday nightafter allegedly assaulting a Brookhaven woman with a knife andentering her home.

Javon Lee Banks, 20, of 3005 James Drive, Wesson, has beencharged with aggravated assault (domestic violence) and burglary(by breaking and entering) in the incident.

Detective Roger Wilson of the Brookhaven Police Department saidBanks and the victim were having a dispute about some jewelry whenhe allegedly broke into her Adams Street home through a window andconfronted her with a knife around 2:30 p.m. Monday.

“She had some pretty good cuts, but it wasn’t anything lifethreatening,” Wilson said.

The victim was taken by her mother to the King’s DaughtersMedical Center emergency room, he said.

Banks was arrested Monday night at Southwest Regional MedicalCenter, where he had went for treatment of some cuts he hadapparently received while climbing through the window, Wilsonsaid.

“When he went in, he injured himself and went there fortreatment,” he said.

Banks pleaded guilty during the May court term for unlawfulpossession of marijuana. He was sentenced to three years, suspendedfor five years probation. He was also to pay a $3,000 fine, beevaluated for alcohol and drug treatment and to perform 200 hoursof community service work.

An initial hearing to set bond will probably be held Monday,Wilson said.
