Bogue Chitto rally exorcises Devils

STRINGER – Under new head football coach Garreth Sartin, theBogue Chitto Bobcats picked up where they left off last season.

Trailing the Stringer Red Devils by two touchdowns, the Bobcatsovercame the deficit in the fourth quarter with 15 points for the28-21 come-from-behind win.

Bobcat junior quarterback Michael Blackwell scored on a 32-yardrun and connected with Lane Porter for the two-point conversion totie the game at 21-all in the fourth quarter.

In the final minutes, offensive lineman Anthony Stevensonintercepted a Red Devil pass and returned it 32-yards for the goahead touchdown. Todd Davis kicked the PAT for a 28-21 lead andeventual win.

“Our kids showed a lot of heart,” said Sartin. “We found a wayto win the ballgame in the second half. We wore them down in thethird and fourth quarters. It was a good way for our kids to startoff the season.”

Bogue Chitto jumped on Stringer in the first quarter for a 7-0lead. Blackwell scored the TD on a 53-yard run and Davis kicked theextra point.

In the second quarter, the Red Devils burnt the Bobcats threetimes for touchdowns and a 21-7 lead.

In the third quarter, Bogue Chitto cut the deficit to 21-13following a 63-yard run by Rico Lewis.

“Our offensive and defensive line did a good job in the secondhalf,” added Sartin.

The Bobcat offense collected 11 first downs and 327 total yards.They rushed the football 37 times for 271 yards.

Blackwell completed 5 of 16 passes for 56 yards. Hale caughtthree passes for 45 yards. David Adams had one catch for eightyards followed by Porter with one catch for three.

On the ground, Blackwell rushed 12 times for 111 yards. Lewispicked up 75 yards on six carries. Rushing 11 times for 45 yardswas Adams.

Directing the Bobcat defense with 11 tackles was Davis. BarrettWallace made seven tackles.

The Bobcats were assessed nine penalties for 75 yards. Theypunted four times for 30 yards.

Bogue Chitto (1-0) visits Franklin County Friday night. Gametime is 7:30 p.m.
