Man dies of injuries in accident

A Brookhaven man died Saturday evening at a Jackson hospitalfrom injuries he sustained in a one-vehicle accident just hoursearlier in Lincoln County, according to authorities.

Eugene Ross Jr., 68, of 734 Egypt Circle, died around 6 p.m.Saturday shortly after being airlifted to University Medical Centerfrom King’s Daughters Medical Center, said Lincoln County SheriffLynn Boyte.

Ross was the only passenger in a 1965 model Ford Ranchero drivenby Jeremy Dunnigan, 29, of 712 Penn Street, when the vehicle leftNola Road and struck a tree.

Dunnigan was transferred via ambulance to KDMC, where hiscondition was not immediately available Saturday evening.

Boyte said “wet roads” appeared to be a major factor in the 2p.m. accident.

The Brookhaven Fire Department was called to scene around 2:15p.m., to use the Jaws of Life, but they were able to removeDunnigan and Ross from the vehicle without the Jaws of Life,according to the fire department report.

Brookhaven police officers and a Lincoln County Sheriff’s deputyassisted KDMC medical personnel by providing an escort throughBrookhaven for the ambulance.
