If there was a bright spot among Wednesday’s somber observancesfor the 9-11 anniversary, it was here in Lincoln County.
Firefighters, law enforcement officers and medical servicespersonnel led a Silent Parade through downtown Brookhaven to helpremember and honor those who lost their lives in this nationaltragedy. It is estimated that about 1,000 people watched the paradeand about 500 took part. It was heart-warming to see such goodparticipation.
Chamber of commerce officials deserve a pat-on-the-back forhelping pull the event together. They did a great job. Maybe theparade can become a yearly event.
While thoughts and prayers are with those who lost loved ones inNew York, Washington and Pennsylvania, we should also remember ourlocal emergency service workers. Yesterday’s parade did that, butwe should never forget that they are here working for us every day.Quite often, their jobs put them in harm’s way.
To them we say, thank you. May God bless you all and keep yousafe.
