Wreck kills city worker

A Brookhaven Water Department employee was killed in a Fridaymorning accident on Highway 51 north just outside the city limits,authorities said.

Julius Pearl Magee, 64, of 208 Phillips St., was pronounced deadat King’s Daughters Medical Center at 9 a.m. following the accidentabout 7:40 a.m. , said Lincoln County Coroner-Medical Examiner ClayMcMorris.

Magee was driving a tractor while on his way to bush hog arounda city sewer line in the area when the tractor was hit by anOldsmobile driven by Cathy White, 22, of Brookhaven. White waslisted in stable condition after being taken to KDMC, a hospitalspokesman said.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Bryan Phillips said Magee wasthrown from the tractor, which continued north and ran over Mageebefore stopping when it hit a cement mixer at a Highway 51business. Phillips said Magee’s injuries were primarilyinternal.

Magee had been a city employee since 1994.

McMorris said an autopsy will be done by Mississippi Mortuary inPearl. Tyler Funeral Home is in charged of funeral arrangements,which are incomplete.
