Brookhaven man faces kidnapping, assault charges

A Brookhaven man faces kidnapping and simple assault chargesafter allegedly forcing a female acquaintance into a vehicleearlier this month, said authorities.

Kerry D. Sanders, 27, of 907 Old Brook Road, was arrestedTuesday by the Brookhaven Police Department after kidnapping andsimple assault charges were filed by the alleged victim, saidBrookhaven Police Chief Arlustra “Pap” Henderson.

The charges stem from an apparent Sept. 7 incident when KimberlyDeShields, 24, of 410 Old Wesson Road, Apt. 11C, says she wasforced into Sanders’ vehicle around 12:18 a.m., according to apolice report.

“She said he (Sanders) forced her into the car at the corner ofNorth Hamilton (Street) and Independence Street,” saidHenderson.

DeShields, who recognized Sanders as an acquaintance, was thenallegedly struck several times in the head and chest area bySanders, according to the police report. Her injuries did notrequire hospitalization, said Henderson.

Henderson said it was unclear if a weapon was used in theincident, and no weapon was found on Sanders when he was arrestedlast week. Sanders remained in the Lincoln County Jail without bondSaturday.
