Services for Elgene “Sugarbear” Parker Sr. of Brookhaven are 11a.m., Thursday, Oct. 31, at New Jerusalem M.B. Church with burialin Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation is Wednesday from 1-6 p.m. at Tyler Funeral Home.

Mr. Parker, 49, died Oct. 25, 2002, at King’s Daughters MedicalCenter. He was born in Hattiesburg on April 9, 1953, to JohnnyParker and Annie B. Thomas Parker.

He was disabled while serving in the U.S. Army. He served in thearmy during the Vietnam era. He was a member of New Jerusalem M.B.Church.

Preceding him in death was his father.

Survivors are his wife, Joyce Marie Parker of Brookhaven; hismother, Annie B. Thomas Parker of Brookhaven; his sons, CoreyParker of San Diego, Calif., Joseph A. Parker and Raphael L.Parker, both of Brookhaven, and Elgene Parker Jr. of Clarksville,Tenn.; his stepson, Jesse Paul Bledsoe of Atlanta; his daughter,Gardesha Washington of New Orleans; his stepdaughters, Sandra M.Bledsoe of Brookhaven and Anita Gardner of Atlanta; his brothers,Willie Parker and Felix Parker, both of Brookhaven, and GeorgeParker of Hattiesburg; his sisters, Johnnie Mae Parker Sheppard,Ellen Ann Parker Catchings, Aletha Parker Watkins, Marie ParkerParrish, and Frances Parker Brown, all of Brookhaven; and twograndchildren, five stepgrandchildren and a host of nieces andnephews.
