Unbeaten BA roars past Columbia

COLUMBIA – The unbeaten Brookhaven Academy boys improved theirrecord to 15-0 following Tuesday night’s 66-47 win over ColumbiaAcademy in a battle of Cougar teams.

In the girls game, Brookhaven (23-0, 5-0) improved on theirunblemished winning streak with a 60-48 victory over Columbia.

The Columbia boys kept the game close in thefirst half, trailing Brookhaven four points 30-26 at halftime.Brookhaven put the game away in the second half, outscoringColumbia 36-21.

Powering Coach Dale Watts’ BA Cougars with a game-high 34points, four rebounds and three assists was Craig Smith. LayneMoreton netted 13 point, pulled down six rebounds and made twosteals. Alex Davis collected five rebounds.

Columbia got eight points apiece from Morris Lowery and ToddRussell.

Brookhaven 60, Columbia 48

In the varsity girls game, Brookhaven placed four girls indouble figures. Kelli Byrd led the way with 11 points, threerebounds, five steals and three assists. Anna Gatlin, Abby Williamsand Mallory Logan fired in 10 points apiece.

Lauren Smith finished with nine points, seven rebounds, sixsteals and six assists for Coach Barry Gray’s BA Lady Cougars.Gatlin pulled down six rebounds.

Brookhaven jumped on Columbia for a 14-7 first-quarter lead. Atthe half, the visitors were on top 33-21.

Junior High Results

In the boys game, Brookhaven whipped Columbia 51-33. DirectingBrookhaven with 18 points was Jeremy Winborne. Seth Davis finishedwith 15 points.

Travis Pace netted 12 points for Columbia.

Emily Langley’s 13 points and five rebounds helped leadBrookhaven’s junior high girls to a 35-34 win over Columbia. MaddieAllen and Anna Bishop followed with seven points apiece.

In the seventh grade game, the 4-1 Brookhavengirls knocked off Columbia 24-14. Kelli Snider paced Brookhavenwith 13 points. Hannah Watts added 5 points.

Damie Robbins had six points for Columbia.
