Co-Lin splits twinbill at Jones Co.

ELLISVILLE – On a wet, cold and windy Saturday, the Co-LinWolves managed a split with the Jones County Junior CollegeBobcats. Co-Lin won the opener 8-6 but lost the nightcap 13-12.

Co-Lin head coach Keith Case said the Wolves performed better atthe plate. “We went out there and Jones threw Chris Holleman whosigned with Ole Miss. He was 13-1 for them last year.

“We were more aggressive at the plate but we had some breakdownson defense,” he added. “At times we didn’t pitch well and we didn’tplay defense well.”

Co-Lin (10-15, 1-3) resumes play Tuesday, hosting East Centralfor a 4 p.m. doubleheader.

Co-Lin 8, Jones 6

Posting the win for the Wolves was Lance Deville (3-2) with sixruns allowed on nine hits, three strikeouts and three walks. CassBrister finished out the final inning with one strikeout and twohits allowed.

Holleman (3-4) took the loss with two strikeouts and one hitbatter. T.J. Grissom worked the final two innings.

Sophomore catcher Chase Coley directed the Wolfpack with adouble and a single. Casey Ginn and Cayce Wallace ripped twosingles apiece. Hitting a double was Ben Goza.

For Jones, Nick Chatham, Nathan Jack and Mitch McCray collectedtwo singles apiece. Donny Dorman and Jonathan Robertsondoubled.

The Bobcats committed six errors.

Jones 13, Co-Lin 12

“It was very frustrating,” said Coach Case. “I thought we didsome things to get back in the game.

Jones County scored the game-winning run in the bottom of theseventh inning. Relief hurler Matt Fitzsimmons (1-1) absorbed theloss with three strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters. StarterMitch Mangum worked the first three innings. In the fourth, CalenCline, Thomas Garland and Fitzsimmons saw time on the mound.Michael Edwards worked the seventh inning.

Going 4-for-5 at bat for Co-Lin was Ginn. Tripling was AaronGuillot. Paris Dancy and Oberschmidt ripped two singles apiece.Cayce Wallace doubled.

Leading Jones with a home run and a single was Donny Durman.Also homering was Jared Myrick. Chatham doubled and singled. ChadMcLiann singled three times.
