Co-Lin Wolves split twinbill with Jones Co.

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves split a South Division doubleheaderTuesday at Sullivan Field with the Jones County Junior CollegeBobcats.

Jones County rallied to win the opener 4-3 and Co-Lin held on totake the finale by a score of 5-3.

Co-Lin is 14-23 overall and 3-9 in division play, Jones is 3-10in the South and 12-23 overall on the season.

Jones 4, Co-Lin 3

The Wolves were up 3-2 going into the final inning when theBobcats picked up two runs for the lead and eventual win.

“They had several ground balls that were hard, high-hop hits,”said Co-Lin head baseball coach Keith Case. “They put the ball onthe ground and made things happen. We had the lead going in andcouldn’t make the plays.”

Posting the win was Ty Lawson with seven strikeouts and no walksin seven innings.

“(Lawson) changed speeds and threw several pitches in the strikezone,” explained Case. “He kept us off balance all day.”

Freshman Tyler Perrett (3-6) absorbed the loss with sixstrikeouts and no walks.

“Tyler pitched really well,” stated Case. “He pitched extremelywell. He pitched well in the zone. I was glad to see him stillprogressing in that direction.”

Hitting a single for the Wolves were Aaron Guillot, DeigoNucete, Paris Dancy, Aaron Oberschmidt, Cayce Wallace, Ben Goza andChase Coley.

For Jones, Nick Chatham, Jonathan Robertson and Jared Myrick ledwith two singles apiece.

Co-Lin 5, Jones County 3

Brookhaven’s Kendall Poole (4-4) went the distance and got thewin with seven strikeouts and six walks. Robert White (3-3) tookthe loss with six strikeouts and one walk.

“During the 3rd and 4th innings, we had lead off guys and weswung the bats well. We did a really good job,” Case said.

In the last two innings, we lost focus and were just swinging,”added Case. In the early innings, we were focused. Kendall pitchedout of some jams. He battled through that.”

Oberschmidt led the Wolves with a double and a single. BrandonHubbard singled twice. Jeffrey Waycaster, Casey Ginn, Guillot andGoza hit safely.

Robertson paced Jones with two singles.

Co-Lin entertains Mississippi Delta tonight for a 6 p.m. game atSullivan Field.
