Non-chamber members OK’d for lab training

Classes at the Mobile Training Lab will be open to members ofthe general public beginning in May, said Chandler Russ, executivevice-president of the Brookhaven-Lincoln County Chamber ofCommerce.

Until now, classes at the lab had been open only to members ofthe chamber. Russ said the lab, in its year and a half ofoperation, had reached a saturation level among chamber of commercemembers.

“We felt there was a need out there for people who might not bechamber members who may want to attend the classes,” Russ said.”We’re hoping to get good participation from those who are notmembers of the chamber.”

Russ said there will be a minimal charge, to cover materials andutility expenses, for non-chamber members to attend. Costs for theMay classes range from $6 to $24.

“It’s still free to chamber members,” Russ said.

The May schedule includes two Basic Spanish classes, MicrosoftWord 2000 Basic, Quicken 2003 Basic and Establishing PerformanceExpectations.

One Spanish class will be taught on Mondays May 5, 12, 19 and 26from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The other class will be on WednesdaysMay 7, 14, 21 and 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Non-chambermember cost is $16.

Microsoft Word 2000 Basic classes will be Tuesday and Thursday,May 6 and 8 and 13 and 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost is$24.

Quicken 2003 Basic will be taught Tuesday through Friday, May27-30, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $24.

Establishing Performance Expectations will be a one-day class onTuesday, May 27, from 9 a.m. until noon. Cost is $6.

Russ said there is a maximum of 10 students per class. He saidthe classes fill up quickly and he encouraged those interested tocall the chamber of commerce as soon as possible.

“There are spots available in all the classes,” Russ said.
