BA girls claim AA state title

The host Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars won the State Class AASlowpitch Softball Tournament Saturday at the Hansel KingSportsplex. Brookhaven Academy had finished runner-up the last sixtournaments before taking the championship Saturday.
Brookhaven whipped Bowling Green (La.)12-2 in the opener, thencrushed Simpson County 18-3 next round and 6-0 in the championshipgame.
“I’m proud of the way the girls played,” said Brookhaven Academyvolunteer head coach Neal King. “They deserved what they got. Theyplayed extremely hard.”
Brookhaven Academy senior Lindsey Holmes was the winning pitcherin the tournament.
Brookhaven Academy wrapped up the season with a 25-6 record.

In the first game, left centerfielder Emily Langley directedBrookhaven with a home run, a double and a single. Jessica Hartsmashed a home run and a triple. Angie Davis drilled a home run anda single.
Adding support to the Lady Cougars win with a triple and asingle was Brittany Wilkinson. Singing twice was Maddie Allen.Holmes doubled. Amber Beeson, April Douchard, Katie Watson andEmily Yeager singled.
Brookhaven Academy 18, Simpson 3
In the second tournament game, Brookhaven Academy was powered byLangley home run and two singles. Hart belted a home run and asingle. Collecting a triple, a double and a home run each wereAllen and Wilkinson.
Douchard and Davis collected 3 singles apiece for the LadyCougars. Ripping a pair of singles each were Beeson and Holmes.Snider tripled. Hitting safely were Grant and Watson.
Brookhaven 6, Simpson 0
Allen ripped a home run and 2 singles to lead the Lady Cougarsin the championship game. Beeson and Hart blasted a home run and asingle apiece. Collecting 2 singles each were Douchard, Davis,Holmes and Langley.
