Man hurt in tree-cutting mishap

A Lincoln County man was seriously injured Tuesday morning whenpart of a tree limb fell and struck his head during a tree-cuttingaccident on West Monticello Street.
Nolan Johnson, 28, suffered a major head injury around 8:30 a.m.when he and his co-workers were cutting trees at 541 WestMonticello St.
“One guy was up in the bucket truck and he cut a limb andhollered, but he (Johnson) didn’t get out of the way quick enough,”said Brookhaven Assistant Police Chief Nolan Jones.
Other employees were standing nearby cutting limbs into smallersizes as the limbs were cut down from a large tree. The one thathit Johnson on the top of the head was a portion of a largerlimb.
“It was a chunk about 12-14 inches,” said Jones, adding thatworkers estimated it fell approximately 75-80 feet.
Johnson was rendered unconscious immediately and had notregained consciousness before being transported to KDMC. Followingtreatment at KDMC, he was taken to University Medical Center viahelicopter.
A number of Brookhaven police officers and the director oftransportation assisted medical personnel in their efforts to treatJohnson at the scene.
“It was just a freak accident,” said Jones.
