Two killed in area accidents

Two people were killed and several seriously injured in twoaccidents in Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M’s districtSunday.

A Jayess woman was killed around 9:18 p.m. when the 2000 Kiasedan she was driving overturned and ejected her from the vehicle,according to Rod Crawford, public relations for MHP’s M Troop.

Brin Ratliff, 44, of Jayess, was traveling with her son, MarkRatliff, 9, and Lawrence Ratliff, 25, relationship unknown,Crawford said.

They were northbound on Highway 27 about one mile north ofTylertown when the vehicle left the road.

Brin was pronounced dead at the scene. Mark was airlifted to theUniversity Medical Center in Jackson and was listed in critical,but stable condition Sunday night, the trooper said. Lawrence was”moderately” injured and was transferred to Forrest GeneralHospital in Hattiesburg by ambulance.

In a separate incident, Leo Medious, 29, of Columbia, was killedand his son seriously injured in a near head-on collision onHighway 48 east of Tylertown in Dexter about 1:34 p.m. Sunday,Crawford said.

A 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier, driven by Danny Grabert Jr., 15, ofTylertown, attempted a left-hand turn across traffic and was struckby Medious. Grabert, an unlicensed driver who was cited for drivingalone with a learner’s permit, was “moderately” injured andtransferred to Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb.

Medious was pronounced dead at the scene. His son, Leo MediousJr., 6, was airlifted to Forrest General Hospital, then transferredto UMC’s pediatric intensive care unit. He was listed in criticalcondition Sunday night, Crawford said.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Crash Team is investigating bothaccidents to determine cause, he said.
