Fire ruled accidental

The fire that destroyed a home at 429 Dale Tr. early Wednesdaymorning has been ruled accidental, according to the fireofficials.

Capt. Dustin Bairfield, a fire investigator with the LincolnCounty Sheriff’s Office, said he was notified late Thursday by thestate fire marshal of the ruling.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 12:45 a.m.Wednesday by a 911 call placed by the house owner, Augusta Flynn,from a neighbor’s home, Bairfield said.

Flynn was in the bathroom getting ready for bed when the smokealarm went off, Bairfield said. She smelled smoke coming from themaster bedroom and escaped through the bathroom window, receiving asmall cut. She then ran to a neighbor’s to make the emergencycall.

Brookhaven Fire Department and Zetus Volunteer Fire Departmentassisted Hog Chain VFD in extinguishing the blaze, but the homesuffered approximately 90 percent damage to its structure andcontents.

Fire investigators were at the scene by 8:30 a.m. Wednesday tobegin their investigation.

Bairfield said the state fire marshal, who was the leadinvestigator, did not tell him what caused the fire.
