“We’re not a regular food pantry,” said Gwen Smith, executivedirector of SAP. “We’re an educational food pantry. We do more thanprovide food to those who need it. We also try to educate them onwhat and how to eat to reduce their medical needs and help themlive a healthier life.”

Smith said people must call SAP and set an appointment toreceive food from the pantry. When they come for the appointment, they are met by a nutritionist who questions them about theireating habits and offers suggestions on how they can eathealthier.

The FTC’s load of food was made possible by a private donation,Smith said, and Penske offered the organization a discounted rateon a truck to make the pick up.

SAP was established in 2001 as a strictly volunteer operationand was officially opened as a non-profit organization in September2002.
