Brookhaven Academy bashes Bowling Green

FRANKLINTON, La. — The Brookhaven Academy Cougars placed fiveplayers in double figures Tuesday night in whipping the BowlingGreen Buccaneers 93-62 in District 4-AA basketball action. JeremyWinborne pumped in a game-high 23 points and grabbed four reboundsfor the Cougars.

Kelli Byrd sparked the undefeated Lady Cougars with 16 points,seven rebounds, three steal s and five assists on their way to a63-31 victory over the Lady Bucs.

The Cougars (23-3) overcame a 25-13first-quarter deficit with a 33-16 run in the second quarter totake a 46-41 lead at the half. The Cougars, coached by Dale Watts,blew out the Buccaneers 27-11 in third quarter and 20-10 in thefinal frame.

Adding support in the Cougar win was Cole Hodges with 21 points,including 5 three-pointers, seven rebounds, six steals and 10assists. Finishing with 12 points apiece were Seth Davis and AlexDavis followed by J.M. Winborne with 11 points.

Jeremy Beall led Bowling Green with 18 points. Scoring 16 pointswas Matt Sessions. Brad Wheat had 10 points.

The Lady Cougars (28-0, 10-0)got added support from Mallory Logan with 13 points. KristianDavidson finished with 12 points. Emily Langley pulled down sixrebounds.

Coached by Barry Gray, the Lady Cougars pounced on the Lady Bucsfor a 16-4 lead in the first quarter. At halftime, BA was up 31-14over Bowling Green.

Kaitlyn Dufiene had eight points for Bowling Green.

Junior high games

The 19-2 BA girls dumped Bowling Green 29-20. Holly Case pacedthe Lady Cougars with 12 points and nine rebounds.

The 16-2 Cougars nipped the Buccaneers 48-45. Sawyer Wallacepaced BA with 13 points. Cory Bailey netted 12 points.

Trevor Thomas scored 16 points for Bowling Green.

BA entertains powerhouse Jackson Academy Thursday night. Juniorhigh girls action begins at 4 p.m.
