Board should continue ‘open meeting’ policy

The Brookhaven Board of Aldermen handled some important businessTuesday by overriding the mayor’s veto of a plan to privatizegarbage pick up.
And, they did it in an open meeting — no retreating behindclosed doors to an executive session.
Now that some details of the garbage plan have emerged, citizenshave started asking questions. Some favor the switch; others don’t.One wants a public forum to discuss the issue.
We commend the board for conducting last week’s meeting withoutan executive session. We hope they will continue that policy.
As we’ve said before, the public’s business should be conductedin public.
