A portion of a south Lincoln County road was closed Friday aftera bridge washed out due to recent heavy rains, said District ThreeSupervisor Nolan Earl Williamson.
The wash out forced the closure of Topisaw Road about one milenorth of Ruth. In addition to rain, age was another factor in thebridge wash out.
“It’s going to be closed several weeks,” Williamson said.
Williamson said a contract to replace the bridge was awarded inJanuary. Site preparation for the project was expected to startnext week.
“I’m sorry for the inconvenience, but it’s going to be so muchbetter when we get the new bridge in there and don’t have that oldone to contend with,” Williamson said.
The Topisaw closure brings to three the number of roads closedin his beat, Williamson said.
A long section of Bogue Chitto Road has been closed while crewsinstall a new bridge over the railroad in Bogue Chitto.
Also, Primitive Drive was closed recently after supportscollapsed under a bridge on that road. Williamson reported progresson correcting that problem.
“We’ve about got that one fixed,” Williamson said, adding thatwork would likely have been completed if not for the badweather.
