Lady Jackets advance in Division 7-1A

NATCHEZ — Alisha Mason poured in 20 points and the EnterpriseLady Yellow Jackets edged St. Aloysius 36-33 Monday night in theopening round of the Division 7-1A Tournament in Cathedral’s gym.Enterprise advances to Thursday’s semifinals and meet the No.1-seeded West Lincoln girls at 4 p.m. Win or lose both teamsadvance to next week’s South Mississippi playoffs under the newformat.
The Enterprise boys were eliminated by No. 3 seeded MSD lastnight, falling 66-39. Powering the Mississippi School for the DeafBulldogs was Paul Biggs with 28 points.
The Lady Jackets (10-19) got 14 rebounds and 7blocked shots from Mason. Jana Brister grabbed 9 rebounds. ErinJohnson made 6 assists. Deanna Albritton made 5 steals.
Mason, a 5-8 sophomore, was a force on defense, too. The LadyJackets overcame a 20-19 halftime deficit.
“We had a good third quarter and we did a good job controllingthe boards in the fourth quarter,” said Enterprise coach BillyVaughn.
Freshman Sarah Kerut led St. Al with 11 points. The Lady Jacketsheld Kerut scoreless in the fourth quarter.
The Jackets (1-28) trailed 29-26 at halftimebefore the Bulldogs went to work, going on a 21-6 third quarterrampage. MSD plays West Lincoln at 5:30 Thursday in thesemifinals.
Enterprise, coached by Ricky Gray, got 15 points from Matt Floydand 11 from Corey Smith.
