BHS top Cathedral; falls to Vidalia 21-3

NATCHEZ — The Brookhaven Panthers knocked off the hostCathedral Green Wave 2-0 Saturday afternoon in the CathedralTournament.

In Friday’s game, Vidalia, La. clobbered Brookhaven 21-3.

In Saturday’s tournament game, Xavier Qualls and Darius Perkinssingled for Brookhaven. Brooks Hall was the winning pitcher withfour strikeouts, one walk, one hit batter and three hitsallowed.

Tee Riley absorbed the loss with two runs allowed on two hits,14 strikeouts and two walks.

“I was pretty proud of them,” said Brookhaven head baseballcoach Randy Spring. “We played really good toady.”

Vidalia 21, Brookhaven 3

In Friday’s tournament game, Brookhaven stayed with Vidaliauntil the top of the fifth inning when the Vikings hammered thePanther pitchers for 14 runs.

Scotty Smith was the losing pitcher who worked for three inningsand allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, 6 strikeouts and 4 walks. DariusPerkins took over in the fourth and was followed by Matt Walker andZach Watson.

Brad Hinson was the winning pitcher with 3 runs allowed on 5hits, 6 strikeouts, 1 hit batter and no walks.

At the plate, Smith powered the Panthers with a home run. W.T.King singled twice. Hitting safely were Xavier Qualls and AdamOgden.

Michael Weir paced Vidalia with a double and two singles.Hitting a homer and a double was Carl Williams. Randy Sawyerhomered and singled.

Brookhaven 5, Vidalia 3

Josh Coone was the winning pitcher in the JV game. Guy Orr,Elliott Warren and Brandt Hinton led the Panthers with two singlesapiece.

Brookhaven entertains Terry Tuesday for two games. The JV gamebegins at 5 p.m. followed by the varsity at 7.
